The AirPods – Apple’s wireless earbuds – have been in high demand ever since they were released in late 2016. Some reasons behind their immense popularity are that they are free of wires which makes them very convenient. They also pair with multiple devices and are excellent for making phone calls.
When looking to pair your iPhone with your AirPods, open the pods’ charging case and press the setup button that is located at the back of the case. Ensure that your phone’s Bluetooth is on.
When you receive a prompt on your iPhone, press ‘Connect.’ After connecting your AirPods to any device that is related to your iCloud device, they will automatically recognize all other Apple devices that are connected to your iPhone such as Apple Watch, Macs, iPods, and iPads.
This smooth pairing between Apple’s devices and the AirPods is enabled by the new Apple W1 chip that facilitates enhanced wireless connections to allow for better sound quality and improved battery performance. While connecting your AirPods to your iPhone or any other Apple device is relatively straightforward, there are some tips you need to know to get the most out of your AirPods. Here are some of them:
Inside the charging case, you should see a status light situated between where the two spaces meant for the AirPods. Whenever the AirPods are inside the case, they shut down and charge.
The status light indicates the charge level of the AirPods when they are in the case, and when they are not in, it indicates the charge level of the case.
A green light means that they are charged while amber means they are still charging. A flashing white light indicates that they are ready to be set up with a device.
On the back of the charging case, there is a small button that is used to pair the AirPods with Non-Apple devices. To connect to these devices, put the pods back into the case while leaving the lid open.
Now press that small button we have talked about until the status light starts blinking white. At this moment, the pods will appear in the Bluetooth menu of the device you are trying to pair with.
Press pair and you will begin enjoying the AirPods on the non-Apple device. Nevertheless, there are some features in the AirPods that the foreign device will not be able to support.
The double-tap feature is one of the coolest things the AirPods have. By simply double-tapping either AirPod, you can perform a variety of functions. On the onset, the come set to activate Siri. However, you can change what each Pod does.
To do this, follow these steps:
One of the most convenient setups for people who like listening to music while running is ‘Play/Pause’ for the left ear, and ‘Next Track’ for the right ear.
Moreover, you do not even have to tap on the earbuds themselves to perform these tasks! You can double-tap your ear as well. It is actually more comfortable that way.
The earbuds can give you 5 hours of listening time on a single charge. However, if you want them to last much longer, you can utilize one earbud at a time to make your calls or listen to music while the other charges, and switch between them.
When you switch the buds, they will connect automatically. Moreover, the AirPods were designed in such a way that you can hear both sides of the stereo even when using just one bud.
When you tap the blue ‘i’ icon next to the AirPods under ‘My Devices’ menu, you will see an option for ‘Microphone.’ You can use this microphone in either the left or right bud while making calls and interacting with Siri, but not both earbuds at a time.
The microphone’s default settings are ‘Automatically Switch AirPods’ which means that either of them can serve as the microphone. However, if you want a specific bud to always be the microphone, there is an option there that states ‘Always Right AirPod’ or ‘Always Left AirPod.’
When you choose either of these options, the one you select will be the default microphone even when you put it back into the case.
There are various ways of monitoring how much battery life is left in the AirPod and in the charging case. The fastest way to do this is to place the AirPods back into the charging case, leave the lid open, and then put your iPhone next to the case. A pop up will appear on your screen indicating the amount of charge that is left on each AirPod and in the charging case.
Another way of checking the percentage of battery life left in your AirPods is by tapping your iOS device’s Notification Center and then swiping right so that you can see ‘Today View.’ While there, move down until you get to the Batteries widget. The Batteries widget displays the amount of charge left in all the devices connected to your iCloud such as your Apple Watch, iPhone, and AirPods.
Moreover, you can also use your Apple Watch to check your AirPods’ battery life. To achieve this, head over to the Control Center from your watch’s home screen and tap on the battery icon while your AirPods are out of their charging case.
You may also ask Siri about the status of the AirPods’ battery. While on your iPhone, activate Siri and say ‘AirPods Battery.’
Your AirPods are valuable, not only because they do not come cheap, but because of the convenience they offer you. After just using them for a couple of days, you might find yourself addicted to them.
